Hello!
The Ramsey job went well. We had no major problems to speak of. I guess the only complaint we have is that the people from the schools did not move everything. We usually require in the contract that all items must be off the floors. This saves us a lot of time and saves the customer some money. It also saves us the hassle of trying to remember where everything goes after we have moved the stuff. I usually send the customer a reminder email the Wednesday before and another email on Friday. This has worked very well because if I send it on Friday only it is usually ignored because the employees don't feel like doing stuff at the last minute. This stops them from saying that we notified them too late. The job itself had no problems. I was not able to go but my people left our area at about 8 am and by 5 pm they were back. It was a team of 4 techs. The customer was very satisfied and the only complaint was that the rugs where not vacuum even though that has nothing to do with us.
This coming weekend we have a bigger challenge ahead of us. We are heading to New York and it is about a 2 hour drive. That is always a pain because that means 4 hours where no actual work is done and some how I must compensate my technicians for this time. It also means I supply there lunch and if necessary there diner. So that increases the cost of the job.
Hopefully this weekend the job will go as smooth as this Ramsey job!

Well today I went and bought the stripper and wax for this Ramsey job. I got two 5 gallon pails of each. Total cost plus taxes was $219.66. I can't be there in the morning so I had to call Jorge and let him know to go without me. It is about a 45 minute drive to the school. Our crew for this job will consist of Jorge, Daddy O, Federico, and St. Martin. St. Martin usually goes if I will not make it. I used to go to all my strip jobs but started to let the crew go by themselves. I probably will pop in to make sure there are no problems even though Jorge will usually call me if something comes up. Jorge is the one that does the actual machine work. Daddy O is our mopper and blade man. Federico is what we call our sucker or he is the wet vac operator and also blade man. St. Martin will be the gopher. Blade man duties is using a razor blade on a 4 feet handle to take care of edges, corner and areas where the machine does not reach or hard to strip areas. Three crew members a usually more than enough for a strip job like this one but an extra crew member is always welcome when it is time to lay the wax down.
So the crew is ready and so am I. Let you know how it goes.

Here I am. My very 1st post to this blog. I will be concentrating on telling the stories of the floor guys. Who are the floor guys? There are my crew of workers that go around stripping, waxing, scrubbing, buffing, sweeping mopping and doing all kinds of floor work. This blog will tell about their work, their trials and there experiences. There will be funny stories, crazy stories and unbelievable stories. You will hear about the great customer, the nasty customer and the occasional crazy customer. So if you are a floor guy or know a floor guy or just want to read about floor guys keep coming back for the stories and tell us about your own personal stories.
My company is called Big O Building Services. It is a general janitorial company that does just that, general cleaning. We clean office buildings, factories and daycare centers. We mostly specialize in daycare centers. The stories you will read here are mainly about the floor care side of the business which is called Big O Floor Care. My floor care technician is called Jorge Posada. Yeah, Yeah I have heard it before, "the catcher for the Yankees?" You know the answer to that so I will not even answer the question. Big O Floor Care and Jorge have been doing floors for about 5 years now. (Jorge has worked for other companies doing floors for more that 15 years) The stories you will read here will start as of today, really starting this Saturday. Most of our floor work is done on weekends. We have a small crew and they are Dario, which we call Daddy O, Alberto which we call Federico (don't ask me why) and some times Gilberto join us which we call San Martin.
Big O Floor Care is based in New Jersey. More specifically in the Morris County area, but we do floor work all around. This weekend we are heading to Ramsey, NJ to strip and wax a daycare center. This usually takes us one day but sometimes more. So look for a story or experience about this trip on Monday.
Thanks for coming and if you would like to contact me (Orlando or Big O) you can email me at orivera@bigofloorcare.com.
